  • lb356r (postbiotic)

Ferment lysate (postbiotics) from bacteria LB356R® which was isolated from fermented beetroot.

Jojoba oil is an effective emollient and moisturizing oil that in its composition resembles the skin's own oil (sebum). This makes it suitable for most skin types.

  • Shea butter

Shea butter is a very fatty oil that is great for moisturizing, protecting and regenerating dry and damaged skin. Its regeneratory properties comes primarly from the high levels of phytosterols, which stimulate cell growth.

  • Rapeseed oil

Canola oil is derived from rapeseeds and has restorative and skin-soothing properties. It is rich in omega 9 fatty acids and is therefore a great moisturizer and emollient.

Sunflower oil has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce redness and roughness on the skin. Sunflower oil also maintains the strength of the outer layers of your skin and helps keep it hydrated.

Real probiotics are a science

There's a bunch of rumors, recommendations and undocumented experiences within probiotics. We try to elevate the discussion on the area and separate fake from fact, probiotic from none-probiotic

  • The official definition of "Probiotic" was publsihed in 2001 by a UN/WHO expert panel and defined as: "live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host".

Alright, so what does that mean?

    Live microorganisms
This refers to the probiotic bacteria which in itself is a microorganism. "Live" is essential here since some of the benefits of probiotics derive from the bacteria being alive when you as a consumer receive the product. Not just when the product is manufactured. The bacteria may die before you receive and start using it. It's a tough task keeping the bacteria alive all the way through production, warehousing, delivery as well as on the shelf in your home.

    Adequate amounts
It's crucial that the amount of bacteria is sufficient to do a difference. Our products contain 10^8 CFU (colony forming units) per milliliter. This means that each milliliter in the product contain 100.000.000 bacteria (100 million), which we through clinical studies know is sufficient.

    Health benefit
You can easily cover your skin in bacteria by going outside and laying in the grass. There's plenty of bacteria there. But does it have any positive impact on your skin? To fulfill the definition of 'Probiotic', the specific living microorganism added to the product must have demonstrated a positive health benefit.

    The host
    This is just you :)

... or any other person or animal using the probiotic.

  • Technically neither of the two are probiotic. They both contain live microorganisms, but it is unclear which specific strains, how many there are and whether the specific strains have any health benefit in those quantities.

This doesn't mean that the old trick of applying yoghurt to the face cannot have cooling or soothing effect, or that drinking kombucha cannot have a holistic health benefit. The difference is that through years of research we have found the specific bacteria der are the most efficient towards the specific health benefits we seek to achieve - and we make sure they arrive alive and in adequate amounts for you to apply them.

  • Generally, yes.

Your body and skin is a complex system. Even though people with skin problems will often see results quicker, the bacteria will also provide other benefits. E.g. by strengthening the barrier function and tight-junctions improving the skin's ability to stay hydrated, making it appear alive and healthy while also mitigating wrinkles and fine lines.

  • Not necessarily.

You may have eread about CFU (colony formin units), which is the indicator of how many active bacteria a product contains. A larger number is not necessarily better. The best dosis is the one which is tested and has proven health benefits.

  • Great questions.

'Probiotic' is often misinterpreted or misused in products that don’t fulfill the definition. Probiotics is still a fairly new area of research and consumer products (in some categories at least), which is why it is sometimes use as a marketing-gimmick. Unfortunately this dilutes the actual science behind real probiotics. There is however stricter regulation on the way, which will hopefully make it easier for you as a consumer to separate probiotics from marketing.

Still curious?

  • Apply the product to the skin 1-2 times a day. If you're using an oil, remember to shake before use as the bacteria may sometimes drop to the bottom.

  • Our philosophy to skincare, revolving around probiotics, is to use few but effective products. This means that with our products, we rarely recommend using more than one or two products as a complete morning- and evening routine.

If you however still wish to use other products in complement to BAKs, you can still do that. You should however be aware that many traditional skincare products are water-based and therefore contain preservatives which are added to kill bacteria. We therefore recommend that you wait as long as possible (preferably 60 minutes) between the probiotic products and the traditional ones in order for the bacteria to have a significant effect on the skin.

  • Our products contain living bacteria why you should be aware of the storage and expiration date.

When you receive the product it can be kept refrigerated (2-8°C) for more than 12 months without loosing effect. When you start using the product it can be stored at room temperature for ~3 months without loosing effect. If you don't expect to use the product within ~3 months it's a good idea to keep the product refrigerated.

  • It varies a lot

Some experience changes quickly within the first week whereas for others it can take up to a full month.

  • If you are not satisfied with your results from the product, we will be more than happy to send a different product for you to try. Otherwise we'll refund the purchase.

  • LB244R® is isolated from fermented cabbage
LB356® is isolated from fermented beetroot
LB606R is isolated from a baby's stool (yes, there's also plenty of good bacteria here)
LB714R is isolated from the vaginal microbiome of a pregnant woman

  • Yes, you can.

For oliy skin a "dry oil" and quickly absorbed oil is typically recommended.

Especially Jojoba Oil, which we use in most products, is highly effective for people with pimples, impurities and oily skin. It is the natural oil that resembles the skin's own sebum the most. Many experience a cleansing effect from jojoba oil as well as balancing of the skin's own production of excess sebum which makes the skin less oily after use.

  • Poorly.

People in the industrial world loses microbial diversity in the gut and on the skin due to Western Lifestyle; We live too clean, use antibiotics and eat diet with high fat and refined sugars but low in fiber. The decrease of microbial diversity directly correlates with a rise in a range of skin issues as well as metabolic and immune diseases like allergy, inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D), and multiple sclerosis (MS).
